THIS IS... ALSO SANDER KLEINENBERG
When his album comes up for discussion Sander Kleinenberg responds directly that he considers it as an absolute milestone in his career.
"My album has a very autobiographical character. The album is a document of the person Sander Kleinenberg. For me it is a musical expansion and goes further than the regular ‘hands in the air-music’ I used to play and produce. I’m absolutely keen to my own style and do not come up with a radical change, but I do expect that it takes the listeners some more effort to get it. I am fully aware that my success as a DJ brings expectations, but on the album you’ll hear things I've never made before. "
The upcoming album 5K is a new step in the life of Kleinenberg.“Until now my career, both as DJ and producer, always was focused on the Saturday night. With the album I partially deviate from this focus", explains Kleinenberg."As with all new things in life, I learned a lot from the creation of the album. It was sometimes quite a fight between Sander Kleinenberg the dj and Sander Kleinenberg the songwriter."It marks the enthusiastic artist, who admits that he does not follow the easy way, the way of least resistance. “I could have continued with a successful sound and milk it. I also could have stayed playing vinyl, but I switched to cds and video. My aim is to stay enthusiastic and to try, explore and add new additions to my set up. I always aim to make progress”
The album 5K Kleinenberg is not just an album, it offers a total new concept. "5K is really a spin-off of the artist Sander Kleinenberg. Maybe I in the future I will use it as an alter ego. The album title 5K clearly originates from my initials. It’s not about my hourly wage, because off course I’m much more expensive," jokes Kleinenberg.
What can be taken seriously are the collaborations on the album. To start, the album is mastered by one of Kleinenbergs personal heroes, Steve ‘Dub’ Jones from the Chemical Brothers. Further on the album Kleinenberg collaborates with Kraak & Smaak and Jamie Cullum. "Jamie really has an amazing voice. We are of the same generation and that is what he sings about on the song Step Up”, says Kleinenberg. "It is also quite special how our collaboration came about. I heard an interview with Jamie on a Danish radio station and heard him saying that he likes dance music and Sander Kleinenberg in particular. Later I suddenly met him on the train when I missed my flight, very accidental!”
The album première of 5K is at the ADE and will undoubtedly be a star performance. In agreement with previous pronouncements it won’t be on a Saturday, but on Sunday evening. After that, the album will be available in stores, to be listened to any day of the week. Meet 5K … also Sander Kleinenberg.

Sander Kleinenberg has always something to tell, but this time the cosmopolitan has big news: he’s giving birth to his first artist album! The official presentation will be in a special showcase at ADE. A very good reason to interrogate the enthusiastic Kleinenberg. What can we expect from 5K?
